HASHTAG GIDDYUP: “Nolan’s a good friend of our show”

Local football presenters Jason Stolk, Mark Brady and John Mitchell have voiced their support for outgoing Corio coach Brett Nolan following his departure from the club.

Nolan and Corio, under new club president Kylie Fisher, parted ways last night after the club announced London based Andy Challis as his replacement for 2018 on Thursday.

While Challis, a former East Geelong ball winner and 2014 Whitley medalist, is hoping to inject many new structures at the VIVA Energy Oval; Stolk was outraged with how the situation was handled.

“He’s (Nolan) still a bit flat but he’s at Newcomb this morning with the Corio under-12 side and he’s continuing to help out the kids,” Stolk said 94.7fm the Pulse this morning.

“He’s a good friend of our show and we take our hat off to him for how he’s handled it all.”

“From all the good things to come out of Corio’s season it really is disappointing.”

After a winless 2015 and 4-14 record last season, the Devils lost their first 12 games this year before Nolan inspired his side to a come from behind win over East Geelong last round.

“Here we have someone who would go to the extent of not only back stabbing their current coach but also saying things which are completely inaccurate.”

“They then turn around and say they were unaware of his current two year contract, well it doesn’t become anymore more incompetent not knowing about the terms.”

“She’s (Fisher) now stated that because the contract doesn’t say the senior side he can still coach the reserves team, I just find that disrespectful to tell you the truth.”

Stolk added, “I’m a North Shore official, I’ve got no business in Corio matters and I don’t wish to have any business in Corio matters.”

“I wish all the players well, I think the side will be done by Winchelsea but the administration is just not good enough given the man pulled you out of the ****.”

Brady added to the discussion moments earlier adding his surprise ahead of Corio’s past player’s day this afternoon.

“Nobby is a well liked bloke, especially around Corio and this will affect the playing group to be brutally honest,” Brady said.

“He’s done some amazing things to that group, inspired them to their first win for the year against East Geelong and the list goes on.”

He added, “Winchelsea wants to build on their improvement from earlier in the season.”

Founding member of the Hashtag Giddyup program John Mitchell acknowledged the decision yet also agreed that it could have been handled with more distinction.

“What happens if Andy Challis doesn’t turn up?” he asked.

“What if he stays in London? What if he’s injured out there?”

“There’s been a lot of sacked coaches and sacked players for right and wrong reasons but good strong clubs handle that well, this hasn’t been handle with the dignity.”

Corio will be coached by Barry O’Toole and assisted Chris Laurie, both playing their 300th and 250th games respectively in the past month.
