Lights at last for Inverleigh
A major step forward for the Inverleigh Hawks was announced during the club’s Sponsors Day celebrations with the club securing a $320,000 grant to fund lighting at its second oval.
Club president Wayne McMeekin welcomed Victorian Minister for Regional Development and Agriculture Michaela Settle to the event where the funding announcement was officially revealed in front of club supporters and sponsors.
Golden Plains Shire councillor Owen Sharkey was also in attendance.
“We’re very fortunate to have been given a grant for the lighting of our back football oval which we have been vying for many years now,” McMeekin said.
“In the budget now we have been given $320,000 towards the lighting on the back oval.”
The project is expected to deliver major benefits for the growing club, particularly for junior players and training capacity during the winter months.
“This really means a lot to us,” McMeekin added.
“We’re a small community, a dark oval and the kids can’t train.
“With light towers we can get them here.”
Geelong & District Football Netball League president Darryl Jarvis and league treasurer Caz Hearn were also in attendance and congratulated the Hawks on the funding success as the club continues to build following its return from recess in 2002.
