McPherson to lead line-up against CDFNL

The GDFNL's 25&U Interleague team was unveiled this evening following an inspirational training session in wet conditions.

Second-year coach Paul Lynch praised the commitment of the wider squad and urged those who missed selection to hold their heads high before announcing Belmont Lions star Ben McPherson as captain for this year's clash against the Colac & District Football Netball League.

McPherson captained the GDFNL to a memorable 11.13 (79) to 10.12 (72) victory over the CDFNL in 2025 and was among the league's best performers, polling two votes in the Darryl Jones Medal.

The CDFNL, coached by Kane Leersen, named a strong squad earlier in the week.

Key players include reigning captain Sam Mulgrew, vice-captain Luke O'Shannassy and dangerous key forward Lachie Zavaglia.

After falling to the GDFNL by seven points in last year's thriller, the visitors will be eager to turn the tables when the two leagues meet at Winchelsea's Eastern Reserve this Saturday at 2pm.
