Royal ready to represent on home courts
Winchelsea captain Meg Royal is preparing to represent the GDFNL on her home courts when the Raiders take on the CDFNL in this week's Interleague clash.
The annual representative fixture returns to Eastern Reserve on Saturday June 6 with the Raiders aiming to back up last year's seven-goal victory.
Royal has established herself as one of the competition's premier midcourters, captaining Winchelsea's A Grade side while earning multiple team of the year selections throughout her career.
After representing the league in 2025, Royal is excited to again wear the Raiders colours in front of a home crowd.
"After not having it for a few years and then bringing it back last year, it's really exciting to showcase it here with our facilities," Royal said.
"It's a huge day and always draws a great crowd, so I'm expecting the same again this year."
Royal has spent more than a decade at Winchelsea and continues to play a key leadership role around the club as captain of the A Grade side and coach of the Blues' B Grade team.
Teammate Makayla Bulte, who has played alongside Royal since their junior days, said her selection was thoroughly deserved.
"I think it's so special for Meg to be named in the team," Bulte said.
"It'll be a great game and one we'll all be keeping a close eye on."
Winchelsea coach Maddison McKiernan echoed those sentiments and backed Royal to make a significant impact.
"She'll run the full game in centre and at half-time they're asking if she's okay," McKiernan joked.
"We're excited to watch her dominate."
Royal will be Winchelsea's sole representative this year after fellow Blue Grace Pullen was ruled out through injury.
We wish Meg and her teammates the best of luck ahead of Interleague 2026.
