Three-Way Log Jam in MVP Race

For the first time this season, the MVP votes couldn’t split them.

Three A Grade talents sit on top of the Athletes Foot MVP leaderboard after five rounds, one vote ahead of a dynamic Thomson duo.

Corio's Sarah Kasparian is one of those leaders after shooting 48 of her side's 61 goals against Anakie on Saturday.

Mikaele Minns shares the lead after a stoic display in Bannockburn's 45 to 29 win over East Geelong as does fellow defender Maddison McKiernan (Winchelsea).

ATHLETES FOOT LEADERBOARD

10 - Sarah Kasparian (Corio)
10 - Maddison McKiernan (Winchelsea)
10 - Mikaele Minns (Bannockburn)
9 - Claudia Cook (East Geelong)
9 - Bree Caldwell (Thomson)
9 - Amelia Jarvis (Thomson)
8 - Madeline Solly (East Geelong)
8 - Shannon Pietsch (East Geelong)
8 - Ella Wasik (Belmont Lions)

Unlike the Webb medal, where the best three players on the field are voted on by the umpires, the MVP award sees three players from each side poll votes from the opposing senior coach or team manager.

Belmont Lions' captain Angelique Ross won the award in 2024 and finished runner up in the Webb medal that same year while former North Geelong star Gracie Navarro won last year's count. Both winners polled 34 votes.

All eyes will be on McKiernan this Saturday when Winchelsea travels to Bell Post Hill for our GDFNL A Grade match of the round which will be available on our YouTube channel.

This Saturday's Thomson vs. Corio clash could impact the leaderboard with Thomson duo Bree Caldwell and Amelia Jarvis one vote behind the lead while 2019 Maragaret Webb medallist Claudia Cook, Madeline Solly and Shannon Pietsch could also climb up the board when the Eagles play host to Anakie.

2025 Justine Radford medallist Ella Wasik has also polled well, surpassing Yianna Ross on top of the Lions' leaderboard. She will now travel to Bannockburn to face her old club.
